For those that gave me a resume, I sent them onto other business owners also looking to hire in their field. One man in the same field as my business I would have hired. He was 60 something but didn't follow up. We would have loved to bring him on but I'm not chasing people down to give them jobs. That is the job of the person who wants to be hired.

For every story you have about not being hired, I have the same story regarding people I've tried to hire. I don't care how old they are or what color they are I just want people who want to work. If people want jobs they need to follow up and show interest in being hired. We don't hire people who are crabby because our customers don't like that being treated that way. (Editor's note: was that a crack at McCrabby? We'll let that go)

So Looking, please call me, or email me; I'll get your message out to at least a couple hundred folks who want to work. I won't coach them (already did that), but I'm certain they'll follow up. Unemployment doesn't pay much, so if you have people waiting for it to run out, you're right - they aren't very motivated. And, who wants em anyway?? There are good ones out there.
Thank you for your response. Communications is key.
Let's talk.

Dear McCrabby.
No I'm not in HR. I'm a business owner right here in Michigan who is over 50 years old. We have been hiring for the last 18 months. You have no idea how many people I've met who told me they want to work but then decide they want to wait until unemployment runs out.
I recently was invited by a non profit to meet with 20 people looking for a job to help them with their interview skills. Unbeknownst to them I was also looking for staff. They all brought me their resumes. I suggested they follow up with me on linked in or send me an email. I got one response out of 20 interviews.

I wish you had put your name so I could be sure to contact you, but hopefully you'll get this.. I agree, in part, with what you say. There are some schmucks who want nothing more to feel sorry for themselves and milk the system.
That being said, I have had 300 people go through my workshops, and if you'll send me what type of job you're hiring for, I will forward it on to qualified, motivated, hard-working folks who are looking for a chance. Many of them are working now, but many are still searching and some are very underemployed.
I was a hiring manager, and I felt your frustration. I interviewed some of the people you discussed in your response. I didn't hire them either.
But, let me know what you are searching for, and I'll find you someone good.
Thank you.
